This is No. 1 of The NIL Standard, a weekly brief on the estimated market value of college football rosters at the 70 programs we track: every Power 4 roster, plus Notre Dame, Boise State and Oregon State. We build those estimates from public depth charts, production data, and market signals.
In August, ESPN surveyed general managers and agents on what a typical starter costs at each position. Our median lands inside the reported range at 13 of 13 position groups.
These are the numbers we're carrying into the season. The engine doesn't reprice week to week; it reprices at scheduled points, the next one ahead of the winter portal. Between now and then, the only thing that moves a figure is a documented correction, and the totals move with those and with rosters. That's what this brief tracks: the totals, the position groups, what moved and why. Individual player figures stay on the site, next to the methodology, where you can check our work.
